The Seafood Ethics Action Alliance (SEA Alliance) is a pre-competitive collaboration of retailers and seafood businesses aiming to strengthen human rights due diligence carried out in the global seafood supply chain, and ensure respect for human rights.

In March 2024 we have 35 member companies, including the 11 largest UK supermarkets and leading seafood businesses and brands, alongside retail and industry trade bodies. The SEA Alliance membership account for over 90% of UK grocery retail sales, and its members have global operations and supply chains.

The UK non-departmental public body Seafish acts as the SEA Alliance's Secretariat, and has been closely involved in the initiative's development since 2018.

This is our ethos:

The key to driving ethical improvement in seafood supply chains is collaboration. The SEA Alliance is collaborating with a number of other organisations, platforms and initiatives that share common goals on social responsibility in seafood supply chains.

We are working with the Food Network for Ethical Trade (FNET), Global Tuna Alliance (GTA) and Sustainable Seafood Coalition (SSC) to provide their members with access to a fishery risk assessment, developed in partnership with Sustainable Fisheries Partnership.

In addition, we are collaborating with FishWise, GTA and World Benchmarking Alliance on the delivery of a series of webinars on different aspects of HRDD in seafood supply chains. We are working with Pew Charitable Trusts and Environmental Justice Foundation on our advocacy work, and collaborate closely with the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and University of Nottingham Rights Lab, on a range of topics, including human rights and labour standards in the UK fishing sector.
